Curious, those who have been out, hows the bugling activity?

Where?

In Northern CO, we heard maybe a half dozen on opening weekend. Some of those were probably hunters.

In Eastern Oregon, A few reports are coming in that they are starting to become vocale.at night. The only bull I heard last Saturday made a moaning half hearted grunt.

Heard several bulls on the opener yesterday, had a few cows in bowrange but after bulls! Bulls reached the 12' high alder thickets before we could & once that happens there's not getting to them! The downfall alone will stop you & add the alders to it & wow!! We did hear 25 bugles or so, it was a very good couple of hours!

Just got back from Central Idaho and after 3 days of hunting, didn't hear a single bugle. I even bivy'd out at 8500 feet hoping to be amongst them. Chased some cows, but no bulls with them and they were not interested in my chuckles.

Had a 5 point bugeling in South Central Idaho. He wasnt too fired up. Did have a spike bugle and chuckle. He was with 2 other spikes, maybe he is getting a little too big for his britches. That was a little weird. Did see a small herd of cows with no bull that we could see. Other than that it was pretty hot and quiet.

Central CO heavy hunted OTC: Early Friday morning before first light and before weekend hunters, 2-3 were bugling up at 11,000 ft hill/low peak.

Temps were 30s to mid 50s. Rain Thursday morning and rain every evening and night.

Over the 1st 3 days of the season in North West Colorado, we had called in a number of bulls. They only responded to our calls and did not hear any elk bugle on their own.

Hunted four days in the central Idaho region. Never heard an Elk the whole. With this being said, missed a shot at a spike (really dumb move) jumped a cow at thirty yards and heard the all too familar thundering hovers leaving a couple of times. I know I had elk in the area, but none were talking.

Hunted central CO on 9/2-3. Bulls were going crazy on Sunday morning until 10 and then started again from 4-6pm. Probably heard over a dozen different bulls bugling multiple times. They weren't aggressive toward other bulls as far as I could tell. Bulls would respond to eachother but wouldnt close the gap on another bugling bull. They were more quiet on Monday, but I still heard 5 bulls that I could tell were different. I was within 10 yards of one but had no shot.
