Getting there...

Postby StartMyHunt » 10 06, 2015 •  [Post 1]

So about a month ago I decided that it was time to start getting back into elk hunting shape. I work in a building in downtown Denver that has 31 flights of stairs. I work on the 19th floor, and started by getting off on the 12th floor and heading up. I was out of breath the first few days, but gradually built up my stamina. After one week, I was up to 30 flights, and now I am up to 100. I would like to hit 200 before I leave next weekend because my philosophy is that every step I take until then will help me more in the woods.

I should be able to do this because every time I want to give up, I think of my Dad who will not be going with us this year because of Alzheimer's. He never would complain about how tough the hike was or hauling elk out. He was a Marine to the core, and I want to keep that tradition alive. This year is dedicated to my Dad, and I will hunt until I am not physically able to continue and then hunt another day or two.

Mike

I right there with you. The elevation at my house is 29ft. :D and we have no hills whatsoever, I'm reduced to running the stairs at a parking garage 5 times a week.

good luck.
