CO Weather Update

Postby Elkduds » 10 05, 2015 •  [Post 1]

I continued scouting in 49 yesterday, don't hunt til Nov. Hiked a bit @ 10K, still a few aspens w leaves, and dust on the trail. It has rained a little, seeps and springs are flowing. No snow in sight, including Mosquito Range peaks way above timberline. Forecast for Central CO Rockies (Vail) is for a few chances of rain, highs in the 60s, lows about freezing. Looks warm and clear for 1st rifle hunters this year. Good luck, should be plenty of elk left after a challenging Sept. for hunters. Sunscreen!

Good luck Elkduds. My dad and his buddies used to hunt there before it was popular (i was in college and couldn't go...). I am looking forward to hearing about how you do. I was debating using my 7 pp this year and getting a first rifle or muzzy tag for there this year, but chose GMU 76 instead which i did not get. Although i have not hunted there, between my dad and some of my friends who have hunted there, they like the area. Maybe someday we can compare notes.

Thanks for the report and keep them coming. My first second rifle hunt so I'm really watching the weather. Nothing beats boots on the ground!

as I look out my mountain side window I am greeted with a fresh dusting of snow. I am in central colorado at 9,000 feet. I would advise anyone coming into the state to be prepared for cold and hot weather. this time of the year you get all the seasons in about 30 minutes

Looks like the weather may change just in time for second rifle.
