My constant dilemma - what to do?

Postby mjblowers » 09 08, 2015 •  [Post 1]

The theme for this year and many occasions in the past, but especially this year, is elk bugles on top of the ridge next to where I'm at. I'll go up one, and I'll hear them on the other. I'm not complaining, but I'm already 5 miles deep by the time I get there, so I need to have a method of attack if I'm going to go down and up after these.

Is it possible to call them down and up ?
If not, how can I tell if they are going to stick around in that vicinity?
What do you do in this scenario?

After my first debacle on opening day I heeded everyone's advice that responded and realized he was screaming at his cows. So, I'm up there again and he's doing the same thing, the area that I'm looking at on the ridge on google earth doesn't loot good AT ALL and from my vantage point on the ground looked like nothing. I finally manage to get a sighting on some cows and one even breaks loose and walks down to get some water in the ravine separating both of us. I tried some cow calls once it was down to see if I could get them to budge but nothing happened. Should I have attempted to climb up after him ? I was afraid of being spotted and scaring them out all together as there wasn't that great of cover to begin with. I just haven't been getting the response to my calls unless I'm within 100 yards...

I would probably try to move to where it sounded like they were heading, or when you see one break off, run down to meet it at the water. im sure someone more experience can chime in and help more. good luck out there.
