Night hiking

Hi everybody!
The weather dropped over ten degrees this last week and this opening weekend looks to have sun, rain, and maybe some snow on opening weekend. Should be a great time to be in the woods! Still I'm assuming the elk are quiet most the day since its early September, I want to hike up to a ridge at night and early morning for some location bugling. Do you guys try and hike without a headlamp, with one only on a red setting, or the white light? It will be so cloudy that I think the night won't have much benefit of the half moon.

How do you guys do it?

Thanks for the post. I will toss in a pair of safety glasses for myself and everyone else in my hunting group.
I hike with a headlamp on till I can see. Normal white light on dim stetting to extend batteries.
