Bring My Bugle First Week?

Well ya, I'm going to bring it: ). My question is, once I find the general location of the elk, should I have a mind set to be using it early morning or late afternoons? Or plan on mostly cow calling the first week? Or let the elk tell me what to do by mirroring? Who here has had good luck bugling in bulls for a fight the first week? Getting excited! PS: Unit is in south central wyoming limited entry.

Read the situation and react accordingly. They could be quiet as a mouse, or a cow could be coming into heat and you could in there could be some serious action. Beauty of elk hunting is you never know

Let the elk tell you what they want. Location bugles in the morn, eve and at night. You can try some advertising bugles during the day, no results, then cow call.

Not much action, try a breeding sequence to create your own rut.

like the others have mentioned the situation dictate what to do, but from my minimal experience just because there not talking doesn't mean you shouldn't. I called a bull in two years ago with a "standard" bugle waited roughly 30 seconds and gave some soft chuckles and with in 2 minutes I was at full draw and shot with 5 minutes of calling. I was close to him and didn't even know he was there. that bull came in so quiet if I wasn't looking in his direction from get go I may have never known he was there. so, just because there not making noise doesn't mean you cant get them curious enough to come in for a look at this new bull in the area. the time was around 10ish in the morning. hope this helps somewhat. and good luck

Yes sir, bring it! I too would never leave my bugle behind intentionally. It's the life-source of elk hunting rutting times!
