Making the switch to broadheads

You have been practicing with your field tips all spring/summer and the bow is dialed in out to 40,50,60,70 yards what ever you comfortable with. When does everyone make the switch to broadheads?

I keep a dull one in my quiver at all times and shoot at least once or twice every time I practice, making sure I put the broadhead on every shaft and shoot it.

I made the switch last month. Bought a 3-Pak of broad heads that I use for practice shooting. then have an unopened 3_pack that I will use for hunting season.

Will only be practicing with broad heads until hunting season starts. Done with field points for now.

Usually beginning of Aug or so. Will randomly shoot a field point here & there but mainly "practice" broadheads! I do not hunt with the ones I practice with.

Shooting broadheads is the last part of my bow tuning process. Once I know my broadheads hit with my field tips at 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60, I won't shot them until early August. Once I know everything is on I'll shoot them occasionally while in elk camp just to make sure things are still on.

I never make a switch, I shoot them every day. I keep 8-10 arrows in my quiver. Two always have BH's on them. I shoot them every single round. 6-8 FP's and 2 BH's. Pull the arrows and repeat for the entire session.

i have owned a possessed bow. no thank you.

but now, when i get a bow and tune it..i shoot broadhead immediately. i kinda dont care how my bow shoots with FT, because all bows shoot FT's fine unless it is way off. so i tune the bow for broadheads and then go back to shooting FT for practice. this way, when i hunt i just shoot a few broadheads to verify and i am good to go.

you dont want to get close to hunt season and find you have a problem. here in CA there is always something to hunt practically year round.

Seems I do different every year. Most of the time mid July I put the practice BH's on.

Google " broadhead tuning" . There's a great thread over on Archery Talk. Once your bow is tuned to make fp's and bh's HIT TOGETHER out to your max shooting distance, then you can put the bh's away for practice and just shoot fp's. I also match each broadhead to a shaft that it spins and flies perfectly with. Those are my hunting arrows and I typically do not shoot them again until hunting season. Don't assume that every shaft and bh will fly the same together. They don't. If you're bh tuned you should be able to shoot any bh or fp and have it hit the same spot. If fp's and bh's don't hit together you do not have perfect arrow flight. Start over. Even if you get your bh's hitting exactly where you want you will be giving up efficiency and penetration...

First part of August I shoot nothing but broadheads. Field tips don't tell me the story on if my bow is truly tuned.

Just re-stringed and paper tuned my bow today. Still need to install a kisser button, re-sight in and generate new sight tapes, after that I'll be back to shooting broadheads at every outing and dialing in the tune...

I generally shoot a practice broadhead with each group of arrows. I do this just about every time I shoot. Shooting your BH out at 60+ yrds can really make any imperfections in tune and form stand out.
