New Mexico Gila Unit 16c help

Postby Letemgrow » 05 18, 2015 •  [Post 1]

Hey Guys,

New user here looking for general advise.
my cousin and I got drawn for the early archery hunt in unit 16c in the Gila NF of NM.

Has anybody hunted this unit before? I am wondering about road conditions. Looks like it could be a pretty wet year and trying to decide if a 4x4 truck is ok, or do I need to haul my utv up there. Also, how much pressure does that unit get?

Thanks in advance!

I hunted an adjoining unit last year and drove through 16C. The roads were rough. I personally think it would be worth bringing a UTV. You'll be able to get around quicker and with less wear and tear on your truck.

Good luck! From the sounds of it they are getting good moisture down there and it's shaping up to be a great year to have a Gila tag! I can't wait to get back down there in September!

Rain all summer would be great for antler growth, but rain first two weeks of sept might ruin the waterhole hunting!

Anybody been there before?
