Made It To Hunting Camp!

This is the earliest we've been able to get to hunting camp over all the years we've used this one! We generally cannot get there until the last of June! With the light winter in Idaho we cut that time by 6 weeks, amazing! Here's a couple photos of the valley we camp in & call home for most of Sept! You can see the Outhouse here as well that we've used over 25 years! I found it one day many years back all broken down from years of heavy snows. It used to be used by sheep herders but they had long abandoned it. My son & I resurrected it & had it looking real nice believe it or not! (grin) For many years we'd re-roof it & paint the inside so it was clean but haven't put the time in it for a few years now & it shows! We still use it every year! I think we'll do some sprucing up to it this year as it appears to need a bit of TLC! (grin)

Here's a few photos of the valley & the Outhouse! It was a rainy day but that didn't dampen our spirits at all, heck we were at elk hunting camp! (grin)

Ive seen and used worse looking outhouses

This year my wife and I spent a day ATVing in Montana, We drove into a number "camps" Three of the camps had "box" seats, with open view all around

Ha Ha, I need walls or black visqueen/tarp or something! (grin) It was a great time there & sure brings backs so many years of memories as I'm there! They're priceless. Elk Camp is truly special times, there's nothing like it on earth! (grin)

Nice Paul. We got snow on Saturday while I was up fishing. High country is still very white here and June is right around the corner.
Did you get to see elk?

Yes the higher elevations still have snow here too, we were at 6200' at camp. Didn't see any elk but did see a couple tracks from this week, there are a few slipping in. By June they should be able to migrate back easily! You can keep all the new snows out your way! (grin)

I enjoy a view. So I take it you don't have a garden window in you bath at home
Maybe I spent too much time on the prairies of South Dakota, The best seat in the house was a front tire turned sharply to park-a-cheek on the top of a hill with a view
And beaver trapping in Minnesota was timed for quickness; limiting the exposure to the boys before they shriveled to nothing from the cold.

I guess while on that subject. When our daughters were young we were potty training them to pee on a rock. The youngest just finished school, Im remodeling their bathroom, Last night the 20, 22 and 25 year old were having a giggle fest talking about looking for rocks to pee on.

Outhouses fascinate me! He is a cool one from Colorados 10th Mountain Division Hut System. Benedict Hut near Aspen - the best outhouse view you can imagine. Probably has Elk in the area in the proper season too.

We are in the same situation this year with early access to our hunting areas. We are getting more moisture the past 3 or 4 weeks than we received all winter. Hopefully this will help with out lack of winter moisture.

You think your facilities are a bit rough, looks much more inviting than the 5 gallon bucket and snap on seat from our camp. Its great that you are able to get in already, never too early to think about elk camp, let alone being there.

No, our outhouse isn't tough it's just in very poor shape, it needs some sprucing up! (grin) It actually works very well a lot better than a 5 gallon bucket! (grin) I think I'd rather just squat in the woods over the bucket! (grin)

Shoot.....I live in Alabama so you just have to lean against a pine tree and avoid the ticks, chiggers, and poison oak! It's a good day when you can avoid two out of three.

Yes, this is near the 25th year in this base camp & a first at seeing the geese, don't know what to make of it? (grin)

Canada geese are still expanding thier range here in Idaho. Yesterday we saw a pair with young NE of Dubois out on the desert spring range. And another pair on a tiny holding pond at about 8500 feet.
Likely that was just a group of 1-3 year old geese (unpaired juveniles) If they are still around dont be surprised if in a few years geese start nesting in those "wetland"
