into the elk woods ( photos updated sunday 8-19)

Postby JimKirk » 08 12, 2012 •  [Post 1]

had another nice day and quick camping trip to my hunting areas to look at the trail cameras. I am seeing some bulls out of velvet already but that is the exception rather than the rule. trying to narrow down which area to hunt opening day! all these photos are 100% public national forest land.

In the first pic, that bull seems annoyed, almost like he heard the camera click and he doesn't like his picture taken :) Very nice trailcam photos.. The black bear pic is my favorite, he seems to be digging in the mud at the bottom of the waterhole for something... Thanks for posting these.. RJ

I also checked one Cam this weekend, though I forgot my extra sd card in my wife's pack! Either way, these bulls put the ones on my camera to shame! Still got some good pics and I'll share them after I retreive them next weekend!

Nice pics!

there's a non typical on this spot in the attached picture that would be a unique trophy! the picture of him was not real clear but I have been seeing him for a couple of months. any of these are great public land trophies or private land for that matter!!!!

Do you ever turn your trail cam on VID mode? You've got some incredibly great pics.. Would love to see some VIDS of these characters that are coming in to the water hole.. The bear on his back is hilarious :)

funny i was just thinking that today and had a finicky tasco camera that I placed today to do just that would because I wanted to confirm the direction these boys were coming into this spot. I got many dozens of elk pictures from all my camera's so I think I will try the video mode on a few of them. thanks for the suggestion. I may try my first ever tree stand elk hunting at this location.

Great photos, I am just itching to get out there. It looks like it's going to work to where i can leave even 4 days earlier than planned and have 11 full days of camping out and matching wits. I believe all the time and money I have invested in elknut.com ,the forums, the books and videos and cds will make a huge difference in my hunt this year. I feel very confident and am ready for the mountains and the challenge.

bullrub, i've managed to get some nice animals on camera but those camera's are there 24/7. I figured out over the last few years those guys are Houdini's when hunting season rolls around and another rule is the first decent animal on public land is the one I will try and take.

I hear that, same thing here I get a lot of good bulls on my trail cam also, then come opening day they just vanish into thin air. I show people the pics. and they say why didn't you kill one of the big bull in your pics. I just smile and say he looked to tough to eat. :D
