How well do you know your pack?
Can you find something in it if its dark and you have no light?
Do you have a certain spot where each item is placed?

Im pretty particular about where stuff is in my pack. Especially extra AA batteries... :)

Have everything I need, and everything in the right place (yes and the AA"s also). Have packed repacked and packed again to make sure. :D

Here's another test... how many of you can get to the headlamp and batteries without removing your pack? :)

Yup know exactly where everything is and what baggie it is in and yup my headlamp is in my belt pocket :) How about where your tags and license are located, easy to getto or are you digging? Just say if a ranger asks I don't have to get in my pack. If I drop my pack for a stalk I just go and don't have to dig them out.

Headlamp is always in my cargo pocket of my pants. It goes there after the zero dark thirty hike in and is available after my night vision starts to fade on the way out.

Good thread cnelk and honestly, with my new pack... I don't have the outer accessory pockets (just two big ones) I used to have so I'll need to rethink how I pack things for accessibility. Thanks for the reality check.. RJ

Yes sir, I know where all things are in my pack as well, things are in the basic same places for many years now!

I have to remove my pack to get headlamp but not a big deal. I try to keep very light things in cargo pants pockets like gloves, calls & wind detector. I don't like my pockets with things in them with any weight, it feels bulky to me & in the way!

Yep! I wear a Bowhunters vest with lots of pockets. Rangefinder on a short lanyard in top right pocket, very small video camera in middle right pocket, gps in lower right pocket, headlamp in lower left pocket, wind check and elk scent spray bottle middle left, extra reed case in upper left. All the things I might need quick without taking pack off.
