Decoy - solo hunters partner?

Postby dotman » 08 10, 2012 •  [Post 1]

So this will be my first year using a decoy. After a bunch of research I decided on the heads up decoy due to it's size and weight. So who else will be deploying the decoy this year? Kind of excited to see how effective it is, I know tons swear on it but nothing like first hand experience :)

I also got a heads up decoy this year. Where I hunt in eastern MT it is fairly open, hope this can convince a few elk to gome in closer.

I've hunted with the Montana Decoy for the past 3 years and they work. They can be a bit bulky so this year I’ve decided to try the Heads up Decoy.

I have had a Montana cow elk decoy for about 6 years. I named her J-Lo, (big butt). I've called a few bulls out of basins a few times by standing her on the lip of a ridge. The Heads Up Decoy is on my list of things to get.

I will be using one this year when i head out to south central colorado. I will be using the Montana Elk. A good friend of mine has had his for about 4 yrs and has had great success with it. He encouraged me to get one and give it a shot. ( no pun intended ) I will let you know how it goes. I would be interested in feedback as to setup and use, tips etc.
