I'm planning to head out west this fall and would like to learn as much as I can about elk behavior, habitat, calling, etc. What should I start with from Elknut? Theres quite a few DVDs and books to choose from. I'd like to start off on the right foot. FYI I already purchased a mellow yellow.

the four part original DVD series, Sounds by the elk cd, Elknut's playbook, that will keep you busy for a long while. There is so much info, it takes a lot of time to absorb, I made it like going to school, study , study, study... then the advertising and breeding sequence dvd, so ALL OF IT!!!

Those are some very solid recommendations Marc. Would also recommend to practice your calling early and often. Lastly, the diaphragm calls don't last forever. Would grab several so you have another to continue your practice sessions when one wears out.

Also get the playbook, and get familiar with it. You can take it with you on the hunt or about anywhere for that matter.

Elknut's two latest offerings, Advertising & Breeding Sequences and the 5 Basic Elk Sounds to master (sorry if I butchered the title) as well as the Playbook will get you started. And then practice, practice and more practice with the mouth reeds.
