Lost on the Mountain

We've done threads about what we've found in the elk woods. What have you "lost" while out and about in the woods?

I lost my knife this year. I had it out to cut a piece of thread off of my shirt that was annoying me and I got distracted by a bugle. I guess I never snapped the sheath.

I left a telescoping monopod/walking stick on the mountain this season. I even had red electric tape on it to attract attention. Went back and searched for it but could not locate it. Was hunting a burned area and all those downed burned trees look alike.

I have lost a knife and calls in the elk woods, I am happy to report I lost nothing this season

My camera. Lost pics of my first elk. Kind of a drag. Also my self. Got turned around in heavy fog. Had to just sit down and wait till it lifted. Once I could see some landmarks, I was fine, but I was worried for a while.

I lost a SPOT sat communicator several years back, and last year I lost ALL my tags and licenses (they were all together in a sandwhich bag). Had to make a trip to town and get reprints. And I once lost about 6 reeds. Fortunately, these were the white ones are were easy to spot, so we found most of them on the way out.

I always lose my right hand glove. I think I have 10 left handed gloves at home and no right hand. And a couple of arrows last year. nothing lost this year.

I lost a Motorola radio.

Found a pair of Zeiss 10x60 binoculars. They were beat up, had been exposed to the elements for many years.

Right hand glove for me this Season! I shoot with a tab, so I always take my glove off when I set up for an ambush or calling sequence. Had to finish my hunt like Michael Jackson

Sometimes they get annoying, but it makes up for losing a glove in the heat of the moment at least.

This is a sore subject for me. I lose a beanie on average once every two weeks. There are literally hundreds of beanies scattered all over the West...

This season we had an almost comical episode. One night I left my binos (vortex vipers) on the mountain but didn't realize it until I had come home and was loading up to go back out. I rushed down to the bargain cave and got a sweet deal on a set of Zeiss. When my partner and I got back up on the mountain we found my vortex right where we thought they would be but then we noticed that my partner had lost his binos on the way in that morning !! We had no idea where, so I loaned him my vortex and we hunted for a few days. But on the same trip I lost my rangefinder while trying to move in on a hung up bull. Never found it so the next time in town I bought a new rangefinder and then lost it the next day out along with all my reeds. Luckily, we found both the rangefinder and reeds after about a 1/2 hour of searching, thanks to my HP Bryan...

Seems like the elk have a way of making us lose our stuff ...It really is a problem...

You guys are cracking me up with these stories!! I thought I was bad! I haven't lost anything out west yet, but I've lost more hunting clothes than I care to talk about back here in Ohio! I hunt my down with a friend about 2 hours away from home, and every summer I go through my hunting crap and find I'm missing a pair of gloves, or a hat or something small like that. SO I usually go to Cabelas and replace them. Almost every year, my hunting partner has them on the next season.... I say " hey those look like mine!" he goes "Yup shouldn't of left em at my house!" I don't complain though because he has gotten us some really sweat honey holes to hunt! Oh and I lost my Bone Collector beanie last year and he say he doesn't have it... I'll find out on Friday!! haha!

Left a diaphragm call on a rock while taking a break last week. I went back to pick it up, Some body came in on an ATV evidently picked it up

20 years back I had no idea I had lost my knife until the following . week. I thought maybe I left it at home or in my truck,.. A week later I noticed it next to my pile of toilet paper along the trail

Lost my Cabelas rain bibs this year! Dang it.

My partner did find some guys wallet.

I set my eye glasses down like usual when I was glassing through a timber bowl. Took off from there and met up with my brother a few hours and couple miles later. He asked me if I wanted to buy some glasses he found. Not only is it a small world but that mountain can be even smaller.

I lost an expensive pair of gloves this year. Christmas present. They really spoiled me so I suppose I'll have to cough up some coin and buy some new ones.

I don't like shooting with gloves on but these didn't seem to bother me.

my buddy and I split up and hunted different drainages this year, he killed a bull right before dark and didn't get it deboned until late that night. he said he saw a bear close by that evening and was afraid to leave the meat unattended, so he made a fire and stayed up all night. the next morning he decided to carry a double load out to find me and go back for the rest, it got to heavy so he put one load under a pine that he would remember. ( never did find that sack of meat). also the same day he lost his quiver off of his bow with 6 arrows and broadheads in it. didn't notice until we were 6 miles away back at the truck, those are still up there somewhere as well.

I have lost enough stuff to stock a sporting goods store over the years. Gloves, sunglasses, knife, bugles, reed calls, beanies. You name it I've left it somewhere.

A friend left his GPS after a navigation break and had to use mine to back track to the spot to find his. Nothing lost, but almost...
