Who's Hunting The Opener!!

Postby ElkNut1 » 08 05, 2012 •  [Post 1]

It's tradition with my son & I , we've never missed an opener together since he was 12 & earlier before he could hunt! We look forward to another this year on the 30th! We've put a few down in the 1st week several times! The 10th on though is what we look forward to as Runners & Gunners!

I'm going opening weekend. Usually skip it because of the East Oregonian heat but his year I'm taking up a couple great hunting partners. My son age 10 and daughter age 8! :-)

I leave on September 13th for a solid 10 day archery hunt with my crew, Mike Coleman and David Rydman.

Get there three or four days before season, then hunt or play with the elk the rest of the season. Why does it seem so much simpler to get an elk in bow range when i'm tagged out??

I've been waiting all off-season for it ... wouldn't miss it for the world! My dad and uncle are coming out for their second ever elk hunt, and I'm planning on having a couple of elk on the ground by the end of opening week!

I'll be out to try to fill my deer tag the opening 4 days of archery here in Colorado. Unfortunately, it's in a LE elk unit so I'll have to pass any bulls I may run into. Good luck to all and be sure to come on and tell us your stories!

We'll be heading up! I hope the traffic is not as bad as it was this past weekend.

This will be our first time at our new base camp on opening weekend. Here's hoping we will have it to ourselves. We hunted from it every weekend except opener last year.

Last year for the opener, when we got to our original planned base camp, there were 12 trucks already parked within a few hundred yards. That was a bit of a shock.

Only opener I have missed in 34 years was because of the birth of my Daughter Ruby.
I will be hunting Coastal Washington for Roosevelts this year.
Setting up camp on August 30th, and am booked with clients for the opener through the 10th, hoping to fill the 11-16th slot, but will be happy just to be out there.

I will be pulling out tomorrow in the morning. I am headed to an early Mule deer hunt, then probably go straight from there to elk camp. Guys and gals please try to keep Elknut focused and on his toes, and don't give him any slack. Good luck to all. :)

We plan to leave here in S central WI on the evening of WD 22nd. That way we can have breakfast in Kernney, NB and then hit Cabela's. Don't really need anything but maybe get some of the new black shuttle t's to through the chest of an elk. We have a full 2 weeks planed so hopefully it will be enough. If not we will try some new ways to fix tag soup.

Callem in and shoot straight. WI bowhunter

I will be hunting opening weekend in CO. Hunting Sat-Mon then back to work until Tues-Thurs and up again Fri-Mon for Labor Day Weekend. I will be hunting three day weekends for the whole season and taking the entire last week of the season off of work. Hopefully thats enough time for me to get it done!

I'll be in Colorado for the opener and will be there till the end of the season.

I have an either sex elk and a bear tag.

I'm afraid if I would be lucky enough to get an elk early the carcass would be gone before bear season opens.

I'm hunting opening day (1 Sept) of archery in northern NM. I solo hunt by backpacking into an area and living out of my pack for the duration. I'm 68 and have to take extra precautions, so I've acquired a SPOT this season. Hopefully i won't have to use it. Good luck to everyone and may your arrows fly straight!

This year I will be, it will be something new. Normally with the heat, the labor day campers trying to squeeze the last drop of summer out, I stay away from the mountains. However this year It will be something kind of new. The early season tactics will be at play, the heat, the moon, a different state. As a rule I don't get too excited until after my wifes birthday is over (the 22nd who has a birthday then?? :( ) Over the last several years elk are taken in our camp the 25-26-or 27th of the month.

I'll be helping my brother out for the first 4 days of the hunt. I didn't not draw a tag this year. I guess it was a blessing in disguise as I have to work the rest of the month,30-45 days straight!! No one was allowed to take vacation at this time because of a complete shut down at my work(oil refinery). Damn it!!

I will not be hunting the opener in Washington. I'll be hunting the last 4 days do to work, but I feel that I'll be in great shape to harvest a cow or a spike since I did not get drawn for a bull tag.
