Calling Technique Tip

So ctdad was telling me about his recent Co hunt. He employed a technique that was pretty smart after I thought about it. Wondered if others had used it and if not it is a good idea.

He had a couple different bulls located on the side of the mountain, scouted them Friday evening. Sat am he was working his way toward where they were and thought he heard a bugle from the opposite direction. Listened a while and nothing so he gave a quick locate. Immediate answer from opposite direction. Then another bugle, and another and some cow calls. Obviously a hunter that thought he was an elk and was coming his direction doing a lot of calling. He didn't want the guy screwing him up so he looped away from where he knew the elk were and located again. Guy turns and starts going that way. He continued on and bugled a couple more times and then looped back over to where he wanted to hunt. Listened and the guy finally went out of earshot the direction he wanted him to go. Then commenced to hunting.

Pretty clever. I would have likely just quit calling hoping the guy left.

Somebody read this and thinks that I probably lead a real elk off away from me. It's always possible. I've just never heard an elk bugle this much and come in straight downwind so I took my chances and assumed it was a hunter.

It went as planned too b/c I was into the elk I had located 30 minutes later.
