Well here I lay....

Postby POk3s » 08 01, 2012 •  [Post 1]

....... in bed for the 5th day in a row. Been fishing, working, and scouting the summer away. Busy, busy, busy..... when Saturday i woke up at about 5 AM extremely dizzy. Woke up, looked around and the room was spinning. Nobody really needs to know the details but I've had this happen to me twice before. The first time was from an inner ear infection and the second was a mystery, kind of like this one is. The last time this happened it only lasted a day or so. I went to a concert Friday night and the only thing I can guess is that the loud noise from being so close screwed with the inner ear damage I already had.

Regardless of that, I feel slightly better each day and although I'm not making any money to go directly toward my August-October habit I at least am getting to read off and on on this great forum.

I have ordered some new strings from Mr. Tom Parkinson that I haven't even been able to shoot yet. Had the strings a while ago and just hadn't put the strings on yet but was still shooting my bow. Now I have the strings on and can't virtually shoot. It's crunch time and I'm starting to get a little nervous!

I also just put $400 into Paul's bank account with a new pair of Vortex optics and some calls. BAsicallly when I woke up this morning it was August and I'm starting to get a little antsy and can't do anything about it....

So with all that said, all this preparation I have to do and everything I've purchased to get ready for the season, I think it's officially time I make a fool out of myself. I've posted these vids on other forums but never on this one....until now. The first video was taken in my "blackout" after arrowing my bull last year. I kind of snapped back to reality at the end of this video as I was putting the camera away. The second video is the recovery. Forgive some of the words that I say that don't exactly make sense.....I was so high on adrenaline at that moment I probably shouldn't have had the camera on....but it was so here you go!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM2ZT-TBCWU

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL65hBCV ... ure=relmfu

PS- When I said at the end of the recovery vid, "It's gonna be a head light job gettin' out of here.....but who cares at this point". I deeply regretted that statement at 12:30 AM and I still wasn't back to the truck. I was done taking him apart and on the trail back to the truck at about 8 and only backstraps in my pack.

Dang man... Hope you get back on your feet soon and they figure out for sure what's causing the dizziness. Sounds like bad business all around. Nice vids by the way.. Enjoyed em. RJ

I absolutely will NOT forgive you for your demeanor in your videos, because there is no reason to. Some day, hopefully this year, I'll get my first elk and I'm going to act the same way! Congrats.

Get well soon Man.

Nice bull Pok3s. I always get excited too when I get one like that. I have had many headlight jobs, and will be pleased to do a lot more. This may be a goofy question, but have you seen a doctor about you condition? I am not referring to your addiction to elk hunting. Best wishes.

LOL....yes I've been to two different hospitals. Local one did nothing....typical. Went to Utah and they did two CT scans. Nothing with my brain just something happened with my inner ear. Can't get into see a specialist for a while of course so I'm hoping whatever happened heals here soon and I can start getting after my life again.

Pok3s we may have more in common than I first thought. I never know how to take it when my friends start debating my brain. Some think it needs a thorough examination, some say it would not be worth the bother, while others contend there is nothing to examine. Who would you agree with in an arguement like that? I have avoided the doctors too. Maybe I just don't want to find out what the answer would be.

Ouch! I've been there and it is no picnic. Here is what happened to me several years ago. Hope yours isn't this serious.

I was bush wacking across country to where my buddy had parked the truck several miles away. Never saw a single elk but jumped a heck of a nice muley on the way. I was only about a half mile from the truck when it happened. I swear, that whole mountain side started spinning in circles. I'm not kidding. It was so bad that I had to grab hold of a quakie tree to keep from falling over. I had a bear hug on that tree for sure. I have no idea how long it lasted but it finally subsided enough that I was able to make it down the mountain that last half mile to the truck. I was so worried about getting to the truck that I didn't realize I could hear out of only one ear.

Eventually. when I went to an ear, nose, and throat specialist, he told me that my sinuses on the right side were plugged up so bad that it was putting pressure on my inner ear. Sinus surgery was the only cure in my case.

I really hope yours isn't that bad. But I fully understand yout comments about the whole room spinning. Hope you recover soon.

Trnnt, I've been there also. 6 or 7 years ago I was experiencing the same inner ear crapola as you & WW. I had many days that I could'nt make it to work & spent the entire day flat on my back in bed. A specialist tipped me off to an over the counter dietary supplement called Lipo-Flavonoid that has helped me out tremendously.I've taken it religiously for the last 5 years & I nearly never have issues any more.I also had severe sinus problems to the point of not being able to breath through my nose.Another specialist prescribed a low dose valium to take when I first start feeling it & generally 1 pill will do the trick.I feel for ya man! I also had an episode on the mountain, but did have a couple of buddies close that helped me make it back to camp. Dont know if I could have done it without them.

Thanks again guys.

WW did you have any kind of sinus infection at the time or any problems breathing? The first time it happened, like I mentioned, I had a cold which ended up bing an ear infection which ended up being an inner ear infection before I ever went to the doctor. I currently don't feel sick and didn't before any of this happened....just boom here it is again. I do currently have pain in my right ear but I'm honestly thinking that since I already had damage to my inner ear, I simply reaggravated that injury being so close to the speakers at the concert I was at.

Buglemaster, I will have somebody go look for some Lipo-Flavonoid....can I just buy it at a wal-mart or walgreens or something???

My worst fear is this happening on a mountain. If there's a bright side it's that it has always happened i civilization. I've been given two different prescriptions of valium and they don't seem to be doing much for me.

Not shure about walgreens, but I generally find it a walmart.I take 3 tablets daily now, but at the start i took 4 daily.I honestly dont know what the fix was, but shure am relieved it does'nt happen often anymore. About the only person I'd wish that crap on is our "comander in chief"....& the first lady.. ;)

Trent, I hope it go's away soon. A few weeks ago I was having the same thing for a few days, scared the hell out of me. I had a ear ache, so I figured the inner ear was causing the dizziness. My hunting partner and I are in our 60's and these kind things pop up more frequent. Bad knees and shoulders are a main issue with us now. I've had 5 knee and shoulder surgeries in the last 10 years and 1 more scheduled when I get back in late Sept. Elk hunting is tuff enough without having health issues. Getting old sucks.

I hope you get well and figure it out soon. I know how you feel about Doc's. I have had problems with my lungs two different times. Both times they couldn't figure it out. Just more tests and more money(out of my pocket).

I figured I wouldn't bore you with that story....had told the story enough as it was anyways! hahahaha.

Thank you guys for all the help. I will read over that info idahoghost.

Wapitibowman if I continue to have issues into next week I will be sure to give you a call.

Thank you all again for all the kind words. I honestly thought twice about even posting me being sick but I'm glad I've did. I've got a lot of help from you guys and information I wouldn't have received otherwise. Thanks so much.

I'm feeling better today. Feeling a "different" kind of dizzy so I'm hoping that's good. Until now I've felt the same just about 5-10% better every morning. Today I can walk around alright but I just feel "funny", not foggy or dizzy necessarily like I had before. Going to try and walk around more and see how things feel when I'm up for an extended period of time. Maybe I'll just have my dad bring me up to the mountains and come get me in a few days. Getting an extreme case of cabin fever sitting here in the house when I should be out preparing! Good thing the olympics are on!

Trent: I really don't remember any serious infections before it happened to me. But, I couldn't breathe out of the right side of my nose for a good long time before it happened. I had to sleep on my right side as that was the side that was plugged. If I tried sleeping on my left, everything would drain to the left and I could only breathe threw my mouth.

That dizzy crap is no fun at all. If you can picture a grown man with a death hug on an aspen tree, well that was me. As a matter of fact, everything was spinning so hard, I finally went down and just sat there with both my arms and legs squeezing the crap out of that tree. Sure glad nobody saw me or they would have thought I was humping a tree and trying to make baby quakies.

If you do happen to have the sinus surgery, let me tell you, "it is no fun"! But I'm glad I did it as I can breathe a whole lot better now. This all happened to me probably 18 or more years ago. Haven't had another problem with it since. Another plus was that I quit smoking after the surgery.

Ok I was wondering because I can breathe just fine....nothing is plugged. I absolutely can imagine because I know the feeling of everything spinning. Luckily nothing is spinning anymore and right now I'm trying to struggle through fletching arrows LOL. Still can't focus, and my vision definitely is still "shaky" only way I can really describe it. Putting glue on vanes isn't the easiest but it's keeping me busy, I'm thinking about hunting, and I'm getting things accomplished....all in all it's a lot better day then what I have been going through.

I have it in my pharmacy. Runs about 30$ a bottle. I often recommend it for tinnitus (ringing of the ears).

Yes that does make me feel much better! :)

I'm feeling tons better today guys. Yesterday I was able to get out of the house and walk around....even went to the county fair with all the lights and stuff spinning around and made it through just fine. Was definitely ready to just lay down when I got home but I was excited that I could at least function. Not quite 100% today but I think 90% is a good number. Still a little foggy and not super crisp but I'm gonna go shoot my bow today....and drive!!!! Feels good to be alive. And I'll definitely be heading over to walmart to get some of that LIPO-FLAVONOID!!!!

Thanks a lot everyone! All of this information has helped me tremendously and it just goes to show the kind of people TRUE elk hunters are. Thanks again guys!
