Packing out meat

Postby snake » 07 31, 2012 •  [Post 1]

I believe that I am wanting to have a packer come in and pack out meat if me or my hunting partners happen to kill and elk. What is the best way to get ahold of somebody to hire to do this sort of thing? Also, what sort of arrangement is it usually? Would we be expected to pack the elk to a trail and then they get it, or can they usually go straight to the elk?

I would determine who is a reliabe packer for the area you are planning to hunt, then give them a call. Just note there are a lot of packers out there. The list of reliable ones is somewhat shorter.

Are you hunting in the National Forest? If so, call the forest service office for the area you are hunting and ask for a list of registered packers. They are the only ones that can leagally pack for you. The only other way would be to have a friend do it and you can not compensate him in any way. Good luck with that one.
