Blood trails

Postby Huntingboys7 » 08 04, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Want to hear some peoples tips or tricks for blood trails. Also what are some shots that have resulted in a unfounded elk or maybe shots that killed that you didn't expect to do so well.

I shot a bull at 20 yards; looked to be a picture perfect double lung shot. I waited 30 minutes and began searching for the elk (keep in mind this was a very brushy area). Couldn't find any sign of him. Looked allover in a 100 yard radius, then eventually my partner showed up. We decided to be methodical about it and try and at least locate a drop of blood or a track, so we sort of searched in a grid. About 20 minutes my partner started heading back to where I shot to start over, and he yelled "here he is!". He dang near tripped over him except he saw the single horn poking out of the brush. Lesson learned: a brush patch can swallow an elk :)

This is after we drug him down out of the brush pile. (BTW, he only went about 40 yards).
