How will my timing be?

Maybe somebody from Wyoming can help me out. I will be hunting elk for the first time this fall. I will be hunting in the snowies. Opener falls on a Monday, so I won't be able to make it up to the woods until the 5th. I plan on taking the following week off of work, so essentially, that will leave me 10 days until I have to be back to work again. In general, how does the 5-15 usually rate for elk hunting? I assume it will be in the pre-rut stage? I am not looking for a herd bull, so if just small bulls are going during this time, that'd be fine with me. So guys, let me hear it, can I expect to hear a little bit of calling and rutting action during this time frame?

The following week may have been a bit better but you'll be fine. There are always elk that are just as anxious as we are to get the show on the road. Their daily patterns may be a little more regular than later in the month too. Good luck and welcome to our humble little home.
