Hunting CO unit 78

Postby snake » 07 25, 2012 •  [Post 1]

Does anybody here have any experience hunting the San Juans in unit 78 of CO? Not wanting your spots or anything, just wondering what the hunter pressure is like on public land in archery season and maybe some tips for finding contacts of anybody that has pack horses/mules that would be willing to pack out meat if I do kill one. Thanks

Lots of pressure and tons of roads. There are pockets you just have to work hard to find them. The local fish & game office can get you a list of packers for the area you are going. Expect to see others even if you hike in 8 miles.

Check out Circle K Outfitters. I have had friends use them for spike camps on public and private land in the San Juans. I've never used them, but heard they are a good outfit to use for the beginning hunter at a good price. Not sure if they set up as far east as 78 but they do N/W of Durango;)
