CO 61 - Elk Story or Semi-Live Updates?

Postby cnelk » 07 25, 2012 •  [Post 1]

OK guys...

Got a question regarding my upcoming Colorado GMU 61 elk hunt.

Would you rather read about my 2 1/2 week elk hunt with daily updates or a story at the end of the hunt?

With cell service in the hunting area, I have the capability to update my hunt daily via my ipad.
I will be hunting alone, and evenings in camp could be a good time to either write updates or a story for later...

Let's hear your thoughts~!

If not daily, at the very least periodically!

61 should be a great tag and without a doubt you'll have some great stories to share! I'd love it if everyone came on here to update as the season goes on! If I have a few rough days at camp its great to hear from buddies what's going on in their area... sometimes I need a fire lot under my butt when things aren't going my way, and reading of others success or perseverance really helps me to keep chugging along!

Hmmmmmmmm! Things must have really improved with the phone coverage since I hunted down there. We found only one spot that was about three miles from camp. If I stood on a certain little knoll I could get 4 bars on my phone. But if I moved 10 feet in any direction, I lost everything. I'm not kidding!

But I would really like to hear a daily report of your hunt. It should make for some good reading. Those elk down there will be screaming from day 1 of the season until the very end.

Have a great time!

When I was down there 2 weeks ago scouting, one of the things I wanted to see was cell coverage.
I had 2 way radios and my cell phone. With my GF back at camp, I sent a txt to her from many locations each hour to check in and confirm coverage.
There was only 1 or 2 areas that a txt did not go thru. The 2 way radio also did well when I tried it - 3-4 miles away.
But they are more terrain dependant

And yes... The updates will have pics... :)

You are making a big assumption that we want to hear about it at all! ;) I'm just kidding!!! I'd love to see a daily update thread.

Or maybe you could rig a GoPro camera to your cell phone and we could just watch live :)

Nice vid. Wghat camera are you using? I spent a week there last late SEP scouting thinking I might put in for that tag. Drew Unit 2 archery this year dosen't look I'll ever make it back to 61. I had pretty goos cell service in a lot of the unit. Saw plenty of elk all over. Lots of smalls bulls that came to the cow calls pretty readily. It should be a fun hunt.

Definitely live updates if you have the ability. You will have a great hunt and I cannot wait to see how it goes.

I like some others am chasing this tag but still a few years out. However, I did accompany my father 5 years ago when he had the tag. If you feel you need some info on the unit I would be happy to let you in on a couple things I know.

Good luck!

Hey Brad. No need to be by yourself. Your just a few miles from us and we get phone service from camp. I know Mike can put you in a good spot. If I get my bull early, I'd like to come over and video and call for you.
