Anybody hunt real open country with archery gear?

Two years ago we moved to a new location. Our previous area was pretty densely wooded. Our new area has some dense areas, but also a lot of wide open places with pockets of timber. When we were driving out last year we saw a herd of about 20 elk with two bulls at least a mile from any cover. There are a lot of timbered pockets surrounded by wide open spaces. Is this type of country worthhunting and if so,how?

The only time I was successful in a big opening was when I placed a Montana Decoy out (in a know feeding area). That evening, I cow called in a bull to the decoy successfully.
I can tell you I've had a bunch of unsuccessful attempts of hunting elk in open country, it's always been tough for me. But I know of some people hunt it well, and I wouldn't mind hearing their techniques/tips also.

Elk are where you find them. If there are elk there, yes it's worth hunting them. Use ANY dip or rise in the terrain to your advantage. Same tactics apply to open country as the do to timbered. You want that bull to get as close as possible before he can see the "elk". Where we hunt it is about 90% open sage. If you study the terrain you should be able to find some differences in topography to use.
