How many of you folks mix a tree stand into your SEPT elk hunt? What would you say your ratio is for running/gunning (cold call setups, ridge top locator calling, spot/stalk, etc.) vs. time spend in the tree stand? Just curious. RJ

I took my climber with me last year but never used it (1st elk hunt). Now that I know more about the area and how the elk travel I will bring it again this year. I did pick out a few trees on a couple of very well used trails and marked them on my GPS for this year. Since it is a 2.5 mile hike from camp I probably will just lock it to a tree and leave it back there for the duration of our hunt.

We will be bringing out a few tree stands this year. We didn't last year as we were new to the area. Have a few places marked on the GPS to hang some stands. Found a couple of well-used wallows that we' are hoping they will use again this coming season. Nothing like sitting in the tree stench and waiting for them to come to you :)

I am probably 90% tree stand hunting. If I get an elk I like to call for others that want to hunt that way, and sometimes I will hunt on the ground some when it rains or I just want a break.

Pretty much all run and gun for me, and although I don't bring tree stands to elk country with me, I may sit on the ground some this year, if I find good places to set up.
