Food plots and elk

Hey, I have been planning to build a small food plot this spring in northern Wyoming. Mainly for deer and turkey. But it got me thinking why not incorporate elk in the mix. Any suggestions? I have sorghum, corn, beets, clover and pumpkin. Along with some soy beans. Will this draw elk in during the sept archery season or will they be more interested in rutting? This is my second year living in a state with elk. So I'm still learning.. Thanks for the help.

Elk are grazers, so they will want timothy, rye grass, alfalfa, etc. That being said, I wonder how big this food plot will be. Seems like it would have to be quite large to be a "destination" type plot. Interesting concept, looking forward to results info if you go for it.

Unfortunately it's not going to be huge. I was granted permission to place it on some unfenced private property in the middle of nation forest lands. I have sort of mapped out two squares about 50yards wide and long. They will lay diagonal to each other. The hunt area is general so crossing my fingers it give the elk just enough incentive to walk through it from time to time...but I will update. Thanks

I have tried bait, and what I found out from that was that I could not afford enough bait to change their routine. Elk would stop when they went by, but never went out of their to come to my commercial bait. I suspect a small food plot will be the same as my bait.

If they know its there it might convince an elk already traveling through the area to pop in for a look see.
