Hi there, to all. I just signed up last night after reading these forums the last few months. I have been very impressed thus far with a few things: Amount of info freely given on tactics, strategy, personal preferences, just to name a few. The amount of civility, friendliness, and the spirit of cooperation, especially by some on here who have obviously knocked down quite a few elk. It is refreshing to see, quite frankly.
As far as me, I've seriously hunted elk since about 2006. Since then, I've had good luck on getting some cows and one decent 5 by 5 during first rifle season in Colorado. Last year I went with my bow and had a few really good opportunities, but did not release an arrow. With what I ran into, I've no doubt that some on here could've sealed the deal. I am learning that elk hunting is much more than wandering the woods hoping for an elk. There are definitely strategies that can be implemented that will tip the scales in your favor.I've settled on one area and have committed to learning and hunting it. It has definitely been a good move as I am really starting to understand where the elk will or will not be.
I've recently received Elknut's Playbook and Swede's (I believe it's his) Tree Stand Hunting Book. Again, I'm really amazed at how much help all are, as opposed to people just telling others what great hunters they are...
Anyway, I'm really happy to have found this site, and just wanted to say hello and thanks to all for being so civil and helpful.

Welcome to camp Mark. I enjoyed your introduction. We do have some very experienced hunters here, who are willing to share what they have learned over a lifetime. I enjoy sharing a hunting camp with young and old hunters. The experienced hunters, that know what hunting is all about, and are not operating in panic mode or depressed are great. Newer hunters who want to learn and develop their skills are a joy to have around. Besides they make great packers when one of us older buggers get one. Elk hunting tips here are put out cafeteria style. Ya take what ya want and pass on what doesn't suit ya. Hopefully you load up on enough good points to shorten your elk hunting learning curve. I see you have stared of on the right track learning your area. Best wishes.

Pleased to meet you Mark. It always interests me to hear "I've been here for X months and finally decided to sign up" I just can't figure out why the hesitation. I'm guessing it's because we are all conditioned to stand back at 60 yards for a little while looking and listening to make sure the coast is clear... like any smart bull.

What I do enjoy hearing is that people saying that they appreciate everyone's generosity & the harmony that this place has to offer. I have to say... those of us who have killed an elk or ten and share as much as we can truly enjoy the posts and thoughts of those who haven't just as much, maybe more. Hearing the kind words and watching you guys grow and become successful is like getting a paycheck for doing what we love to do anyway. It makes me want to plan a big get together one winter where we can all really meet face to face. Maybe all pile into a hot tub with Swede or something like that.

Hi Mark. I'm also new to the forum. I had about given up on hunting forums until I found this one This is my one elk forum, with a few visits to Elkcamp forum now and then. Then I have my muzzleloader forum.

This is a very comfortable forum to come to. If they don't throw me out. I'll hang around.

Welcome Mark, I enjoyed your introduction as well. This is the best place on the planets to learn more about elk and hunting them. I was a lurker for quite a while and have just started posting more often. The people here are great and so willing to share their knowledge.
