How / Where do you carry your reeds?

Postby RockChucker30 » 07 10, 2012 •  [Post 1]

I'm curious to see how everyone carries their reeds. How many do most of you take on a hunt? Is there a specialized case that keeps them organized?

I carry one in my mouth most all day. Never know when you'll need to use it!

I use the same case as John linked above. I generally have 4 with me every day. I carry a primary and backup of two types of reeds. This year I'll have two each of the Herd Master and Full Rut Tone Tops with me at all times.

In an old federal .22 container. It's about the same size as a chewing tobacco container. I line the bottom with a few layers of paper towells to absorb moisture. It works well, and, the color prevents me from losing it :) RJ

I have a reed pouch hung around my neck. I got it from Allgamecall.net a long time ago. I'll try and get a picture of it up soon.. Like having them very accessible.

I've used the primos case, but without some kind of packing the reeds seem to rattle when I'm on the go. I use a cheap little rubber coin purse. The kind you can cary in your shirt/pant pocket. Quieter & can cary all the reeds I need for the day.

Plastic coin pouch or as Phantom16 does. I like the paper liner. I will have to add that. I have use baking soda for years. It helps but baking soda is not great to taste.

I have the primos clear case that holds 4 reeds. I keep 1 in my mouth when I leave camp until I return. 2 single and 2 double reeds usually. Always have a couple dozen new ones in my gear box for back ups or give to friends learning to use a reed for the 1st time. I tend to blow out a few reeds when things get crazy. :o

I have two of those little plastic squeeze purses. Each has three different diaphram calls in it. Namely, the Raging Bull, the Scream-N-Tormentor, and the Herd Master. One purse is in my pocket and the other is a spare that I keep in my pack.

I like phantoms case. I think I'll empty out a tin that pellets for a pellet rifle come in and use that. I'll have to make sure I get all the lead residue out though!

Yep, it works great. You may want to grab a plastic container like "six" uses (jerkey chew container). You may not want the noise of the metal lid on the metal container (pellet tin) in the woods. Not sure, but the tin may develop rust on the inside after a while. Just my thoughts friend. RJ

Great ideas guys. I get really annoyed with the movement of reeds in the primos cases.

I hadn't thought of the beef jerky can. I should have though because I dipped snuff for 15 years, and the cans are the same size. I'll pick one up.

I hope you mean you'll pick up beef jerky, not snuff! Needing a reed case isn't an excuse to start dipping again!!!!! :)

I wonder about drilling small holes in the top and bottom as "air vents" if that would eliminate condensation buildup? I think the paper towel idea is great too, just wondering a few very small holes would work as well?
