Stop the herd!

Hey all.

I recall reading a post recently where somebody mentioned a technique that they successfully use to stop a spooked elk herd, but I can't remember what I was reading... Was it using nervous grunts? Was it chasing after and throwing out lost cow sounds? ... Whatever it was, the author even suggested being disgusted at hunting shows on TV when the elk spook and the guide just sits there (admittedly that's what I do when a herd spooks - after trying a call or two to try and find a shot, I just wave goodbye and stare at the cloud of dust wondering if that really just happened).

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I think Paul mentioned doing the regathering cow sound for a spooked herd. Search the forum for regathering and see what pops up.

Before I knew what that sound was, I had success in past seasons to bring in bulls from far distances with it. I liked it because it carried further than my light mews. I call it my Hail Mary whiney cow call. I was likely misusing it. I only did one and not any other call.
