Elk Hunter Magazine call/tube review...

Postby slim9300 » 08 01, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Anyone read the latest issue of the magazine yet? There was an interesting article comparing many of the options on the market for us elk hunters. Jay Scott looked at reeds, external calls and tubes and gave his take of all of them. I put an order in for a few items with Jason Phelps a few days ago and judging by the reviews of his products in the article, I'm sure I'll be very happy. The cool part is that he is local to me here is western WA. We even talked about him making some custom reeds in the future for my goofy calling style. For some reason I can only use the Raging Bull with any kind of all-around skill, albeit limited. Lol.

Anyways, check it out.

Just read it.

Very good review for Phelps calls.

I think I'll get the Elk Commander and Pleading hotty.

Ordered the elk commander a few days ago, gotta see why it's rated so much better than the others.

What reed do you currently use?

I always get nervous when I find out my calls are being reviewed even though I expect them to perform. I finally got a chance to read it last night. Wheewww, what a relief. I'm pleased that Jay liked the diaphragms, but as I said before it is subjective to his calling style.

I've got 8 or 9 different Phelps diaphragms. The 2 that have emerged as my favorites are "The Herd Wrecker" and "The Elk Commander". Great calls Jason!
