Where is your camp?

Postby Lefty » 06 30, 2012 •  [Post 1]

Not specifically, because most of you would lie anyway
Do you horse pack in? Bivi? end of a trailhead? a wide spot in the Forest Servise Road?

My camp ends up being 30-50 feet off of the trail/road I think in 15 or so camp nights Ive had the rancher drive by once and two times hunters on ATV's drive past.
Do you feel your camp is secure with your location? I had always felt safe until last fall when in the middle of the night someone was driving up my road,.. It really creeped me out finding a lashed shut freezer that smelled bad; Do I open it? I opened it up slowly expecting the worst,.. ended up a freezer full rotten ducks,.. still creeped me out

Holy crap man, if I had encountered a stinky freezer that was lashed up, I would have gotten the willies and ran like hell back to my truck. I just wouldn't be able to stop myself from thinking that someone was in the bushes watching me, waiting for me to open up that freezer to find a dead body. Whew, I'd have left it alone and called the Sheriff, let him deal with it.

My camp has always been 2-3 miles off of the nearest FS road, and 50 - 60 yards off of the trail.

This year I'll be backpacking in and hunting from who knows where my camp will be.

Where is your camp?

It really all depends on the hunt, not everyone of my hunts are the same. Sometimes my camp is right off of a forest service road; which is most like in a tent trailer. Other times it's back In a a mile or two off the forest service roads; which is of course in a tent.
Here is an area I really like, tucked up in the aspens.

I have done camps all of the above. I have felt secure in all also.
Lefty, would be OK if I suggested you watch too many movies?

We set up this camp at the end of a road adjacent to a walk in only area.
Since we are retired we can hunt all season.
We have never had a problem with theft if we leave this camp up and leave for a couple days.
