Hey Guys! New to Elknut Forum

Postby aron » 03 09, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Hey guys,

just wanted to introduce myself as I'm new around here. I applied for my first ever elk tag for MT this year. Looking to do a DIY public land hunt with my brother during Sept. We will be spike camp or bivy hunting and looking forward to learning as much as I can from all of you.

I'm born and raised in NE North Dakota and grew up hunting whitetails and waterfowl. The past few years I have been also chasing mulies in the ND badlands and antelope in WY. We do have a few elk in ND but it is a once in a lifetime tag. I have had the opportunity to encounter a few 6 point bulls from the treestand targeting whitetail. Nothing like have a nice bull walk by at 22 yds and nothing you can do about it.

Anyways, looking forward to getting to know all of you better around here and picking up as much info as I can.

From a new guy to a new guy, welcome! What part of NE North Dakota are you from? I am originally from Devils Lake. We are pretty much in the same situation which is crazy. Again, welcome.

I haven't got any specific locations nailed down yet but all my research so far has been in region 3. Going through hunt statistics and maps is starting to make my head spin. I've been trying to find a few plans to be able to get off the roads and away from a lot of the pressure.

Welcome I hunted 321 for several years. The last year that I was there my hunting partner got a small 6 point with lots of wolf sign. Since then they have taken a bunch of wolfs out of that area so it ought to be good again.

Hey Aron, I'm in the same boat too. Live in Eastern ND and going to MT for the first time this year too. Sounds like we're in a similar place as far as our map scouting and number crunching goes also. I'm mainly looking at region 3 so far too. Hopefully we can both gain some great knowledge from the forum and share what we can too. I believe we came to the right place. Good luck!
