Pre-made frozen elk camp meals.

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 06 20, 2026 •  [Post 1]

I’m talking base camp pre-made frozen meals for the first week to several here. So nice to be able to heat some of these up in the evenings vs the alternative of actually cooking everything at camp (sure I do that too after the more convenient options have been exhausted). What are some of your favorite combos pulled out of those block ice packed coolers? Last year I did Italian meatballs in sauce, chili, Sloppy joes, Salisbury steak, meatloaf, ziti, and stew. I’m adding shepherds pie to the mix this year. These are all either vacuum sealed and/or frozen in 32 OZ containers (depending on the dish). Some are heated up in a pan and some are re-heated in a camp chef oven. Some are stand alone dishes and some are served over pasta, taters, toasted buns, etc. What are some of your pre-made frozen meals for your elk camp? I’m always interested in trying some ideas/new thoughts for premium camp fare for the coming fall adventure.

Pretty much all of my meals are just heat and eat or just eat. It does not matter if it comes from the cooler or a can. Some even was in a box or sack. Chef Swede keeps it simple.

Ive never purchased any of the Freeze dried stuff.
IU go home a few Saturday nights ( generally ,, do laundry ,, Sadly too much of my orchard/garden happens then,, Makes some pickles, Mow, move pasture water,,,
I may make stew , bring up some garden /orchard produce.

Otherwise Im quite regular roasting peppers, making an egg, tater/onion cheese type scramble

Otherwise My daughter and Andrew come up,,, Julie makes real meals

Chili is a staple at deer and elk camp. Beef stew. Pulled pork for quick and easy sandwiches. Beef mushrooms gravy on a slice of bread or instant mash potatoes. All these are vacuum sealed, frozen then put in the cooler with dry ice for the trip. Last year I purchased a small12 volt freezer/frigerator. Just have to remember to take one out in the morning and place it in a small cooler by itself to thaw.
