Meat Poles

Postby 7mmfan » 12 11, 2023 •  [Post 1]

We have the annual meat pole thread, but those are usually just the animals. I want to see peoples meat poles in camp with the critters on them. Lets see what you've got! Here are a couple to get you started!

Gotta do what you gotta do. Staying at an RV park limits your ability to string up poles on all trees around you!

RJ's friend Joe hung the parts of my spike elk on some kind of meat pole several years ago. I did not take a picture of it and even forget just what he used. That is the last one I had a critter on. I will use a meat pole if one is already set up at camp. I have not made one in over 50 years.

I had a picture of our meat tree from 2020 in Idaho. We had 4 mule deer bucks hung in quarters in it. It was like Christmas in October. I cannot find that picture now unfortunately.

Thinkin if i tried to do that with bear meat in august, i could take a pic but all youd see is a giant swarm of bald faced hornets, yellowjackets and flies.

Old sow i killed last year was the worst. Cant believe i wasnt stung to death cutting her up.

Yeah, August meat doesn't get hung much. Even September can be problematic. I haven't had much issue with bees but haven't done much killing before about mid-September.

Meat pole of sorts, with some artistic liberties considered. I was going to try and suspend it, but the amount of time the meat was going to stay there didn't warrant the effort.
