Final Wapiti Hunting plans, 2023

All right, you wild Bohemians, the vast majority of the draws (if not all ) have concluded in the various elk states. What are your elk hunting plans for this fall? Nothing spectacular for me regarding the various draws so I will be hunting the early October smokepole short season in the Evergreen state this year. Roosevelt elk taste as good as any others :D

I will be archery hunting in Idaho this year. I will be joined by my 4 brother in laws and my wife.

My daughter also drew an October rifle hunt in Idaho in a good unit that we are excited for. My friend and his buddy also drew a rifle tag that If work allows I will bum along and film.

I am 4 weeks away from being in my tree stand :D

Limited Entry in CO archery. Sounds a little better than it is as it took 0 points to draw. 8 of us going. My regular group plus my daughters boyfriend. I am excited to have him along. His first archery elk hunt. He has a lot of ambition, I hope I can keep up!

I plan to go to Oregon's Northside unit on the 28th of this month and stay there until I fill my elk tag. The remainder of my planning is still up in the air. I have found several potential places to hang a stand. Lord, I need help.

Same plan. No elk hunting for me this year. The bears better start watching out next week though, and the Blacktail will be in trouble the last week of October.
I hunt therefore I am. I fish therefore I lie.

Drew a NM unit 15 mz tag. So my dad, 2 buddies, and I will be there mid October. Already have one scouting trip in the books, which left just as many questions unanswered as it did answered lol. Hopefully I can get out there again before the season. Totally different type of hunting than we're used to, but we're all very excited.

Isn't that the truth? I came back from my scouting trip with the same situation. That is the norm for first and likely second scouting trips. You will finally discover on your hunt, how much hunting pressure you are dealing with, and where you can get away from it. Cattle and other things that can disrupt the normal elk routine then come into better focus. Best wishes on your hunt.

Thanks Swede, and good luck on your hunt as well. The cattle definitely threw a curveball in my plans. But we have two more scouting trips, so hopefully we’ll get it narrowed down

Same plan as most years. Did not draw resident limited quota elk area, so off to the General. Cow elk hunt in WY area 16.

Good luck everyone!

Drew a Montana Big Game Combo. Leaving VA on the 28th heading that way. I will hunt 10 days of archery and return in November for 10 days. Looking forward to the opportunity to chase elk with the bow. Deer will be a bonus, but not the priority.

My wife and I will be leaving Michigan for two weeks in early September with all the comforts of home. No sleeping under a tree for me this year.     It’s been three years since I’ve been chasing elk, so I’m pretty excited.  We’ll be in central Colorado with an OTC elk tag.  I’m just shy of a dozen elky looking spots to check out.   I’ve got a tree stand and a pop up blind ready to go and of course a couple calls from the Born and Raised crew.

Add on a couple bike trips out of Glenwood Springs, some hot springs and maybe a kayaking trip or two.  It should be an exciting couple weeks.
