Pair of Bulls

Postby elkohalic » 01 13, 2013 •  [Post 1]

A couple of friends / [customers] both got lucky last fall. Yes Very lucky!!! I am getting ready to start mounting both of them, both will have a lot of alterations. I am just wondering if there is anyone interested in seeing a "semi" step by step mounting procedure ?

My old hunting friend was a taxidermist and I used to help him out once in awhile. I'd say go ahead and post it up step by step. I'm sure many would like to see it.

OK, here is what I have done so far. Antlers are set on form, and both capes are tanned. I will most likley cut at least one side off below the burr and make it a detachable antler. I will check after all the alterations before I cut the antler off. I just hate to cut them off unless nesessary
The alteratoins are going to be to change both to wall pedistal, both with harder turns and add about 14 inches to the left shoulder. The 314 bull [the one NOT on the mounting stand] will have the head tipped back and bugling. The 316 bull on the stand will be 12 feet up in a room so I will tip the head down just a little more.

Please Do. So interested in how this works. If you get a chance could you also post a few close up pics of how to properly remove a skull cap for a deer or elk. I've seen so many ways but how does a taxidermist want it done? Thanks.
