Im not internet scouting. Just wondering what elevation your chasing elk in
Idaho dessert I was chasing elk at 5,000-5500. In the woods were at 6800-8400, mostly older growth fir and quakies

In Idaho we are at 6000-7000. Washington it varies from sea level to 4500 or so. Hard to hunt much higher than that where our elk are in this state.
I hunt therefore I am. I fish therefore I lie.

In Oregon I don't think elevation. Where you have good feed and cover you are in the elevation range for elk.

9000 and up. (However, I do not usually hunt alpine tundra). Where I choose to hunt based on encounters. I see more elk higher typically, as it is very hot and dry lower. However, I have seen at least one great bull in what I would have labelled "too hot too dry too easy a walk in"
Where I hunt lower elevations also offer fewer safe places for the elk to chillax and there are many more access points for hunters to use that require of them less physical conditioning.

I also think many hunters are afraid to get way from roads.

Seems to be a relatively specific/average elevation for the states I hunt, in SEP. I believe it’s state/terrain/“time of year” dependent. Good thread.
