Updated WapitiTalk Rules of Engagement

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 03 28, 2023 •  [Post 1]

I have updated the forum rules to include an actual, physical rule concerning political threads or posts. Please re-read the rules and you'll see the addition. It is my fault the "Colorado Winter Kill" thread got all jacked up. There was not a physical rule in place clearly stating that political discussions are not allowed; I take the blame for that. There was only a discussion we had several years ago asking if forum members were in favor, yes or no, of allowing politics in the threads, posts, etc. The resounding response was no. For future threads and posts, please ensure you/we stay away from political topics. I know it's very difficult at times to completely keep political opinions, observations out of our discussions but please do your very best. Again, my fault for not having a published, clear-cut rule in place during the "Colorado Winter Kill" thread. It caused confusion not only by the OP, but by my moderator also. Let's get back on track. Thanks all. r/RJ

Thanks, RJ, for clearing up this important point. Sometimes we think something is clear and settled but find out that it is only settled in our mind.
Just as we would not permit backdoor approaches to showing porn or other prohibited things, we need to be careful and not try it here. Quotes, links and other means of conveying political messages need to be avoided as much as the blatant posting of our opinions.

BTW: Thanks for taking the blame for the confusion. That shows the size of your character more than many other things could.

Please don't cut my wages again boss. I just had my taxes prepared, and the lady who does them brought me a sack of used camo, as a good-will handout.

Just so we are all clear, can we define "politics"? It is such an all-encompassing subject. For example, it is clearly out of bounds to say the current or a past president sucks because...

However, when we get into wildlife management, some of those are certainly elk or at least hunting related, but also political. For example, if a bill came up to stop bear hunting in MT, would that be out of bounds to let people know about it? Is opining out of bounds, but just posting awareness ok? Or is any mention of anything political whatsoever over the sideboards? What about some bill clearly against elk hunting?

And on a lighter note, what if Swede were to run for Senator, Governor, or President? Could we have signs made up supporting him? Or against him?

and I cannot find the rules of engagement. :?: Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks everyone and lets keep this forum civil, humorous, and insightful.

I know RJ is the last word on the subject of acceptable political discourse. To me it is perfectly acceptable to ask people to write their congressional representative about some bill coming up and things like that. It is unacceptable to say he/she is an idiot or is a part of the bad political party. Things like commenting on the intellect or lack thereof on some politicians are offensive to some. We can discuss issues, but we need to leave out what we think of those who serve us in government.
I might consider running for president if I was not afraid someone with nefarious intentions would invite me out on a bear hunt or something like that. You jerks are enough trouble. I don't need any more problems.
Consider this: You are not going to gain friends or increase the membership on this forum by promoting political rancor and animosity. It just divides. The slice of pie we share as dedicated hunters is small enough. Let's not turn those who are with us off.
