That was a great story. What I enjoyed about it actually was that the bulls were described as "legal". There was no excessive detail or glorification of antler size. I think that's the reality for most of us. If it is legal, it's worthy.

Your recount of handling that elk solo for the first time was great too. I clearly remember my first mature elk that I processed solo. It was a great big old herd cow. She was massive. I had just helped my Dad quarter up a bull a few days before, so the process was fresh in my mind which helped, but I had only ever quartered out 2 or 3 elk to that point. At that age, late 20's I was probably not much bigger than you, 5'8" and 150#. It was a chore for sure. I quartered and packed two loads to the truck about 1.5 miles away before a friend showed up to help with the last load.
