Would You Shoot Another?

Postby Swede » 01 16, 2023 •  [Post 1]

At 0800 you had a good shot at a nice 4X4 bull, but at the last instant the bull lunged forward, and you hit 8 inches in back of your point of aim. After looking all day and part of the next you finally find your elk bloated and ruined. You can salvage the antlers, ivories and hide if you want. Would you take anything more than a photo? Would you even want a picture? Would you just move on and go back to hunting?
Please share your thoughts and reasoning.

The next year!
I would tag it,, and haul the antlers out

Years back I shot the mane of a bull. I was quite sure it wasn't a problem for the bull catching only skin,,, but I had to be sure.
While tracking the bull I had two other bulls offer easy 13 and 20-yard shots

I count downed waterfowl too.

If I find the dead animal, that's that. I know that in reality it's no different than not finding the animal and continuing hunt, but the finality of finding it would seal it for me.
I hunt therefore I am. I fish therefore I lie.
