Which Calls

Postby Swede » 10 12, 2022 •  [Post 1]

Which calls do you use when elk hunting, and why?

I usually bugle with a Thunder Bugle. As a tree stand hunter, I call only one time before I go over to my tree and climb into my stand. Once in a blue moon I will get out a diaphragm and call. On rare occasions I will hike around and call in a new area to check for a return bugle. I do not intend to chase the elk. About as often I will take out my diaphragm and make some cow calls from a strategic location somewhere near my stand.
The vast majority of the time it is one short bugle in the early morning and one in the afternoon.

Wapiti River Patriot diaphragm calls are my favorite. They just make such an good sound with so little effort. I have tried many others and after 15 seconds I can throw most of them in the garbage. I couple that with and Elknut bugle tube!

I agree Tigger. The W.R. calls are excellent. The work well and last a long time. I find the W.R. grunt tube to resonate well also.
