Do you have the fever? Can you smell it??

Postby Tigger » 08 25, 2022 •  [Post 1]

I do. I have elk fever. Usually I can wait until after our Youth Outdoor Activity Day (dot org - if interested to see what it is all about!). that event is Sunday. So I am 3 days early.

Can you smell the aspen leaves? The cool mornings? The sudden drop in temp as the sun goes down and the cozy feel of a good sweatshirt? Have you stopped taking all physical risks (ie, I will not jump down from the tailgate or ride my son's 2 wheeled motion thingy).

How about the smell of your tent? The feel of a well broken in pair of boots? The Ssswwwaaack of the arrow into the target. Oh, those golden aspen leaves shuttering in the wind. Or the sight of a well worn 2-track that leads away from civilization? Of course you miss that high-pitched, favorite-of-sounds, in the distance; the bugle.

What sights, smells, sounds, etc of elk season are you eagerly awaiting?

If any of you jerks posts pictures in this thread, 7mm is going to let the air out of your tires!

Is it just me, or does everyone love the smell of cow pee in a bottle?

A distant skunk odor gets me excited! Well and walking into an old rutty bull's bedroom too!

Really? That’s interesting because several times when I’ve killed elk I thought I smelled a skunk in the area. Weird because I’ve never seen one up there.

Dean, I think you misread Dean's instructions. I know where you live, I'll be by shortly. Hope you don't have anywhere to go tomorrow.

For now, I'll enjoy the Indian Summer (no pun intended) and the 85 degree evenings in the backyard with the fam.

Starting tomorrow night though, I'll be after this guy.

85 degree evenings? We’ve had highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. August was like September. If anything gets me in the mood it’s the end of the summer heat. But I feel like it’s going to be a cold hunting season.

Western Washington summers are some of the best summers in North America. Beautiful. It may rain most of October through June, but July through September are fa ulous.

Not a smell, but the sound of the river is the first thing I hear when I get out of the car at the trailhead.

I was on my way I promise. But I turned left and ended up on top of a mountain 4 miles from the road. ;) Apparently not far enough though because there was a guy in my camp spot. No bears seen. 20000 blueberries eaten.
