Scouting, OTC and injury

Postby Jhg » 07 14, 2022 •  [Post 1]

I have no illusions regarding OTC in Colorado. I got out and scouted with the attitude, make the best of it.

A game trail. These are deceptive. A herd of 40 cows can make a trail like this just by passing by once every six years or so. However, they can indicate a travel zone.

Nice work Jhg!! Looks familiar? I like the tall one's too! I imagine how big of an animal must have caused that damage.

It was a good test of my knee. Still weak, but I am thrilled it is only weak and swelling.

Here is a link to a short video. I found a stud bull in here three yrs ago. Pretty crusty and what I now consider moderate deadfall.

Had a nice cloud burst end of day. The lightening and rain ended about the time I crossed the creek.

Saw four bulls. One my guess nearly 350...

My knee is pretty weak. My personal injury management routine, tried and true, goes like this:

1 Discomfort. Go for it

2 Pain. Manage it with awareness and maybe ibuprofen.

3 Pain w/swelling. Same as 2.

4 Pain that interferes with mobility. Same as 3 but more careful.

5 Agony. You are gonna make the injury worse. Maybe permanently.

I have found over the years that you can tell between pain that is causing damage and what is just pain. Both hurt, but one is about your mind the other about your ego.
Know the difference and pain is a tool. Do not think being tough is about always pushing past the pain. It is not tough to further injure yourself.

Doing that, in my opinion, is just stupidity.
