Wyoming 16-1

Postby Wyo67 » 06 17, 2022 •  [Post 1]

Hey there fellow Wapititalkers... I was fortunate enough to draw the Area 16 Type 1 tag this year. If anyone has hunted it DIY, I'd love to hear from you. PM's are more than welcome.

Many thanks and hope everyone has a safe and successful season!

I'm a Wyoming resident, so no preference points. Just the random draw which was just about 9%. Looks like it took 15 points for non-residents to be guaranteed to draw in both the regular and special pools.

Thanks RJ -- Good luck here in WY. If you're headed towards the General units in the Snowy Range or Sierra Madre's shoot me a PM and I can (hopefully) add-on to the help Indian Summer is sending ya.

Was into to elk pretty much daily buddy but no good shot for me; buddy had one decent shot but whacked an innocent branch instead of the bull. Probably my last trip to WY starting from scratch on points again

Those branches are way more guilty than they claim,,, Quakies and sage brush are the worst!!

Sorry to hear that. Don't give up on another chance. Indian Summer gets to go about every year.

Unsuccessful - but had a great time in a new area. Into bulls most every day first two weeks of the archery season, but didn't see a cow one. Came back after a short break and bulls no longer where we had found them. Re-located and found some again, but just couldn't close the deal during archery. Health situation necessitated missing out on opening of rifle season and could only find elk on inaccessible private after that. I think the General deer rifle season in between when I could get there screwed things up. Late season cow hunting also a bust. Found a few herds, but again all on private that I didn't have access to. Being out of vacation days and an early onset of winter weather that seemed to close the roads each time I had a couple of days off, didn't help. Overall though it was a great hunt - awesome area. Would hunt again / 5-stars.
