Colorado Elk, 2022

Postby Magic » 06 03, 2022 •  [Post 1]

There was a credit card charge notification for Colorado Elk License this morning so it appears that my Son Marty drew his 2nd season Rifle Bull tag. It will be exciting times for the next 5 months getting ready !!!

I drew my cow elk, ML tag again. I have been lucky to draw 9+ years in a row. I have a few challenges now to work out. My one pack mule is lame and is retired.I am on supplemental oxygen now. My hunting partner's rental horse went up in price, and diesel fuel will probably be more than $6/gal. by the end of the summer. Sure going to try to get it done though.

Where did Marty draw his tag?

Congratulations to all of you tag holders. I should find out what I will or will not have later this month. Best wishes.

I feel some of your pain Vince. It will cost us about $4,000 to make the trip. My two Grandsons seen on the right shown here with my Son, will be the pack mules.

I used the $4,000 figure above based on taking two trucks; one pulling a 5th wheel camper and the other pulling a 12' covered utility trailer. If fuel costs rise to the expected/unexpected we could abandon the 2nd truck & utility trailer. We have always hauled a 4 wheeler but we have never used it. Everything that we need could be hauled in the 5th wheel and truck bed.

Reducing the travel cost by 250 gallons oi fuel would be significant.

Yes, the grandsons will alternate, one hunting with Marty and the other glassing with me. We will have supper ready when the hunters get in each evening.

I sent in for a PP, so at age 78 and counting, I'm still crazy. I had total knee replacement surgery in November, 2020, so I'll get the bicycle out tomorrow and start doing what I should have already been doing.

I hate to admit it but sometimes I need a motive to stay motivated......So yesterday I got the Schwinn out that has not been ridden since 2018, and gave it a well needed washing and aired the tires. It's not some kind of trail or racing bike but just an ordinary 7 speed. After it cooled off a bit l took it for a half mile ride and I'll gradually build up from there. I do not anticipate having any trouble with the total knee replacement that I had done November, 2020. So far, so good.

I now have a motive.

That bicycle sure looks like it could use some exercise. If working the bike helps build up your knee and muscles that will be good too. Best wishes.

I added another hill today and plan to increase my distance to a mile tomorrow and from there I will add more distance each day. I'll be regularly hitting 8-10 miles by the end of October, but not so much during the end of July & August because it will be HOT!! I am enjoying the thought of getting these 78 year old bones back into shape. ;)

Great job Lynn! Biking is a great way to keep your cardio vascular in good shape as well as your legs. I mix a bike workout into my weekly regimen usually twice a week. Keep it rolling mister ;)

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm taking it slow and have worked up to a mile for the past two days. I'll only add a quarter each day or so to reach my goal of 8-10 miles per day depending upon the temperature. We are forecast to reach 95 today with a misery index of 105. Yikes !!!
