:D 11th Wyoming license in a row. One was a cow tag because I foolishly applied in the regular draw instead of the special one year. The closest I could get to this bull last year was 971 yards. This year he is bigger and I am smarter. Plus I screwed a Leupold Mark 5-HD 7-35 power scope to my rifle just for him so we’ll see who laughs last.

First time applying in WY and wouldn’t ya know it, buddy and I both got our tags. On my way to the Cowboy state this year for my main elk push; three weeks ought to get er’ done. Indian Summer has been beating the crap out of me for the past 5 years and I finally put my trust in him to guide me (see what I did there) through the application process. Elk will die.

It took you years to draw that tag Mitch! You should buy a hunt plan/insurance policy. It’ll be 5 or 6 or 10 years before you can go back! Don’t make me say I toldya so!

I think we’ve got a solid plan Joe. Been researching it for 3 years now…. If we don’t kill 2 during our archery hunt at least we will have the option to come back for a week in October during rifle season.

Not that is a plan! Kill 2 in archery? Bulls? Good thing you have the good Lord on your side!

I consider all of my advice has a lot in common with bologna. You can take as much as you like and leave the rest. I think we should all think along that line. :D

Joe - I figure why be cautiously optimistic when you can just go full blown all out optimistic. Actually do believe we’ve got a good spot and we are due…past due.

Optimism is my main weapon! This year I WILL kill number 24. I have no doubt. Last night I had a dream I was hunting already. I had gone into town for a few things and for a little break. I had been having a tough hunt to that point. I was walking back to my truck thinking to myself “Well.. I guess it’s time to bite the bullet and get waaay up in there where you know you can find one” End of the dream. You can’t climb mountains if you don’t think there’s a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I say to myself out loud each morning as soon as I leave camp “Today is the day”

24 elk - I'm wayyyy behind you there Joe - I'm 2 for 2 with a rifle and then I switched over to archery and have gone 0 for 5. I honestly believe that changes this year. For a few reasons. First, we are no longer hunting OTC in Colorado or Idaho. Second, we have learned much on those OTC hunts and will now get to put that to use in a much better area. Third, we have a stone cold archery elk killer going with us (we shared points with him). SO looking forward to this hunt.

For the record that’ll be 24 straight. I’ve killed more but before that I had a couple seasons where I ate tag soup. Good luck! Get up early every day. Hunt hard. Don’t even begin to bail off the mountain until it’s dark. Do that and you’ll do well. There’s great hunting there but you gotta earn it. Great doesn’t mean easy.

I thank the Lord for being on my side too! I plan on killing two bulls in two different states with archery this year.
