I usually am hunting in Colorado. I lost all my Llama pics or I would post those. I did two years with a pair for 7 days each time. Bivy camping without a downside.

I also took the family on a couple during the summer.

Oldie but goodie. When I’m in the mountains camp is a special place. It’s home away from home. And every meal is a celebration of life. I enjoy living like a king up there! When I read threads about guys barely getting by in little 1-2 man nylon tents I shake my head. I feel sorry for them although I realize it’s by choice. I’m more of a go big or go home elk hunter and that definitely means the way I set camp!

Everyone needs a few trips like that. To many really dont know what they need or don't need, or is a total waste of effort and time.

What rivers did you guide. Or even more where in the west would you suggest a 3-10 day trip I would like to take my grand daughter on aa few day guided trip.

My wife and two youngest daughters are headd for some hiking with Death Valley in mind. They are taking my wifes car,,, she wanted to go to light on the sleeping gear, I tossed in an extra sleeping bag ,and a better pad

My first elk hunt a couple fellers from Minnesota , the inside of their tent looked like my grandmas bedroom.

Another group came in with a flatbed on a semi with a forklift. Carpet on the ground, Huge military tents cooked, slept and kept the wives and daughter=in-laws happy

This was a back woods Idaho hunt 3? years ago. I've always enjoyed the simplicity of a "take only what you need" hunt. But yes, I do enjoy a well provisioned base camp also ;) .

Lets see: Colorado, Arkansas, Green, Chama, Rio Grande, Cache la Poudre, S. Platte (great trout water)

On the Desolation Canyon trips (Green) our clients were flown by small plane onto a mesa top, where I waited for them with the other guides. Literally stepped from modern life into a desert world of silence and big spaces. I always started my intro/welcome something like this: remove and pack away your watches (today that would include devices). If you have a medical dose requirement I will be your clock so you can stay on schedule. We will get you to the take out on time and you can resume your life then. But for now, leave the worry to us. Your vacation starts now. You will have hot breakfasts and coffee. Lunches will be on warm sand bars and under cottonwood trees. Dinners around a fire.
These were usually big city high stress lifestyle people. They loved being told to ditch the watch. They loved being free and having permission not to think about anything.

When I got married I gave the new family the Llama trips. The kids couldn't believe we wouldn't use a tent. (I hate tents) We all fit under the sil tarp-4 people, a dog and gear. Food Is hung from a tree well away from the tarp.

They loved it when it rained and we were calm warm and dry.

So people ask me if guiding was worth it, the low pay and long hours. Yes it was when I think of the people I met and that I can take my family into the wilderness for a week or more and they love it.

That snazzy TP holder is only used when the throne is in use. Otherwise it stays in a gallon zip lock on top of the seat with a feed sack and a rock on it for water repellency.

Where is the horse trailer and horses ??

Ive spent a few nights, and my wife has spent lots of nights at 4-H horse camp sleeping in the horse trailer.
One time our church girls had a camp,.. One of our church youth leaders has a big cattle operation,, Brought his nearly new stock trailer. As I walked over to him and the trailer,,, " Its only been used for horses" was his comment. All the camp gear for 87 girls and a dozen adults' camp gear piled in.

The mules were about 100 feet in back of the trucks on high lines. You can't see the horse trailer behind the trucks. This was in ML season, 2020.
