Guess the new elk hunting truck: She’s Landed!

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 12 17, 2021 •  [Post 1]

Ok, I signed the papers today for my new anti elk (or any other big game) truck. It should be in early next week (merry Xmas to me). All you gotta do is guess the make and model and you’ll win fame, fortune (or a sponsor provided prize). Even those who guess wrong will get a super cool WapitiTalk decal for your hunting rig by participating. One of you members can’t play, you know who you are. Ready, set, go….. what elk hunting truck do I have coming in next week?

I think I know who the disqualified member is. At least I know your preference in trucks. I don't want to spoil things, so I will just drop a hint.

It comes with black tires and aluminum wheels.

Some Chevy guys dont know enough to switch to Ford. My neighbor seems to always find a deal for work trucks He sold my wife on a .2.8 L 4-cylinder diesel Colorado. My wife was even ready to sign papers in Brigham City two years ago.But my Tundra still has 150 K more to go.

Ha, I meant to add trim type to the model to make it a little tougher:?. It is in fact another Silverado; a white Trail Boss. Checked with wawhitey on his review/like of his and the report was good! I’ll dig up a prize/goodie for 7mmfan, he guessed correctly. If any of you need a new WT decal for your rig, send me a PM with your mailing address. Ford F-150? Please

I am sorry Lefty. I was not harassing you over your spelling or grammar. It was the placement of your "bumper" sticker.
BTW: My wife has considered me as a long-term project on some things too.
Once upon a time a new husband, not broke to lead yet, asked his wife: "Why can't you accept me just the way I am"? Her reply was: "Just because I accept you the way you are does not mean I have abandoned all hope for your improvement".
I suppose all husbands share that ground to one degree or another.

I doubt the new truck is in yet. Call me cynical but I even doubt RJ gets it until 2022. This is an old car dealer gimmick to get you to sign as RJ said he did in post #1. "The truck is in the mail." lol

When i bought my truck last january from a dealer out of state, it was the same deal. Truck listed as "in transit" so i signed the papers and put 15k down for a truck id never laid eyes on. It felt sketchy as hell, but a couple weks later, i got the call, my truck was in. When you sign the papers its for a specific truck with a vin number. Really no way they can hose you at that point. Took me 6 weeks to get the truck i wanted. Right now, demand is higher than supply. Its the way things are at the moment.

Seems to be the way it is lately. The truck I wanted, I finally found as “in transit”. Talking to the dealer, he said many 22’s are being sold before they arrive. The my new Chevy lands on THU, pick it up FRI.

I really hope your truck arrives at the time stated. I have had problems along that way before. It is much more common for them to arrive substantially late than on time. My son's new 22 Chevrolet 3/4 ton was supposed to have arrived about two weeks ago. He has not seen hide nor hair of it. It will arrive someday. If your dealer can find an unclaimed truck at another dealership, they can usually get it for you very quickly.

I am most concerned about the decision making of our leadership. A Chevy? Just look at the clowns who own Chevys. And RJ willingly chose one  . He even paid to drive one.

I am also concerned about the public image of WapitiTalk. I mean if upper management drives Chevys, what does that say about WT as a whole?? (Softball for you wawhitey....)

Postby Swede » 12 22, 2021 •  [Post 31]

I prefer Fords myself and believe they are a better truck for the money, but all of the new trucks offered work well enough. I laugh at the stupid bumper sticker, that many of us have seen, which says, "I would rather push a Chevy than drive a Ford". Not me. I would rather just walk than push any truck.
I suspect Saddlesore and WW remember a time when they parked their truck or car on a hilltop so they could coast down to get it started. Rebuilt starters were cheap, but we could barely afford one. Batteries were notorious for going bad at the most inopportune time. And if you could not at least change a flat anywhere and anytime, you needed to be prepared to hike a lot. I had a HighLift jack and shovel plus chains in the back of the 2wd pickup all year round.
I understand that GM puts good tires on the Trail Boss Chevy. If I was interested in a Chevy, I think the Trail Boss with the better shocks and a small lift would make it a better hunting truck. If I remember right, they changed the exhaust on the Trail Boss also, but that is probably just to make noise and does not help the hunting aspect of things.

There is another thing they don't put into a truck anymore. Instead, we get Infotainment nonsense and cup holders. The fuel gauge is hard to find, but you are clearly informed about the MPG you have gotten since you last filled up, or is it the last 300 miles?

Don't knock cup holders! Why would you knock cup holders? What have they ever done to you? I enjoy a good cup holder. It holds my cups.

Owned plenty of manual transmissions. Like them. Don't miss them at all though.

My truck has four cup holders up front and two in the back. The front is designed for two people total. You can crowd three in the back on that narrow seat. It should not take a degree in automotive engineering to conclude that two cup holders up front and three in the back has us maxed out. Rather than having so many cup holders, why not use an adult sippy cup?
Now, while I am griping about trucks, I have to ask what's with these engines we are offered today. I was planning to downsize to a midsized pickup last winter. I like Fords but all they offer in their Ranger is a turbocharger sewing machine motor. I think that is lame at best, but what chaps my Khakis is they are reportedly going to offer two diesel options to market outside North America. If they are good enough for Australia, why can't I have one? Oh, I forgot; we get six cup holders.

RJ: I think I saw your new truck driving by today. There was a big red bow on the top and a 400-pound couch potato in the driver's seat. Bubba was on the passenger side holding down a mutt. At least it was headed north so you should see it as soon as they determine it is "ready".

200 pages, that’s all? That’s cuz you bought a F blank blank D. A new CHEV has no less than 400 pages, meaning it has more gizmos and gadgets to confuse us.

My buddy just bought a Trail Boss. Seems to like it. Great for simple-minded folks.

Swede, if you are referring to EcoBoosts in general with your sewing machine comment, I have had 2. Just plain awesome. Great mileage, great power in the same motor. Come out of the 60s and try some new technology!

Tigger, I am sure you are absolutely right. I just could not get past the remembrance of a late 1970s Ford 2.3 engine I had that was like a 13-year-old juvenal delinquent. It was a very underaged smoker and would quit on me whenever I tried to put it to work.

Rest assured, when it is get up and go time, the 3.5 Ecoboost just plain gets up and goes. Put it in Sport mode and it will pin your ears back. Want to pull? Put a 8.5' by 16' tall enclosed trailer behind it and load it to the gills with elk hunting stuff and pass people (especially those driving Trail Bosses) on the freeway.

I’ve read about this phenomenon before, if I recall accurately, it’s called Chevy envy back in the day. More recently, it’s been titled Trail Boss envy. I believe the only relief from this debilitating affliction is to first admit one’s misperceptions about things and head to a Chevy dealer (they sell America’s trucks), beg forgiveness, and hope for a decent trade in on the lesser vehicle (Fiord, Doodge, etc) that you are currently suffering with

I really don't care if you drive a Ford, Ram, Chevrolet or a roller skate. My son had that 3.5 Ecoboost (turbo charged) engine and it i the most powerful thing I have ever known of in a half ton pickup. My cousin had a diesel in his Ford 3/4-ton PU and it seemed anemic in comparison. He thought it was a powerhouse of course.

There is a thread about window stickers on another forum. Ohmygosh, it is hilarious. What people put on their trucks is amazingly tacky. Like really, REALLY cringeworthy!

Of course we have our own version of cringeworthy truck stickers on this forum too......like a couple members that have Trail Boss stickers! :o

Good move wawhitey! Should I send you a "I love Ford" sticker? they must be out of them in that neck of the woods or you would already have them on I assume!

Kidding aside, my buddy likes his Trail Boss.

Sure, send WW a ford decal. He’ll make the best use of
It and bury it with other fertilizer with his apple trees, if he’s feeling generous. F…d, really?

In all seriousness RJ's truck is very nice looking. I am wondering which model year you got and what options came with it. If it is as nice on the inside as it looks on the outside, you should have a sweet ride for many years.

My buddy, who has a Trail Boss like that, drove by when I was taking out the garbage about 15 minutes ago. He honked. That is the weirdest sounding horn for a nice truck I have ever heard. I am hoping it was half froze up (-15 here). It sounded like it belonged on a Kia or Hyundai or something!

It appears that Chevrolet came out in 2022 with only a 2.7 Ecoboost :D four-cylinder engine, to replace two V8 engine options for the Trail Boss. That is interesting. It appears the truck manufacturers are going with smaller engines with turbos. I have been bucking the trend but may need to change my mind. At least I have appreciated the single and dual overhead cam engines that have been offered.

I would guess a 2022 Ford Bronco but I am afraid they are like Unicorns. I ordered mine in July of 2020 and I am still waiting!!!
I decided to keep my old truck as my elk hunting truck because it's worth more to me than anyone else.

Have you heard anything about when it is supposed to arrive? I suggest you hold onto your old truck until you get your new Bronco unless you enjoy walking a lot.
One of my complaints against Ford is that they don't talk to the customers when things are delayed. Even the dealer is left in the dark. I ordered a new 2011 F150 years ago. I included a spray in bed liner in the deal. They were not doing the bed liners yet even though they were shown as an option. My order was delayed until after I finally gave up. I have no idea if that truck was ever made. I ordered it with a max trailer tow package, but with the XLT model I could not get trailer tow mirrors. Go figure. For an additional $600-$700 the dealer would replace the stock mirrors. I went to a trailer supply place a got some extenders for under $100 for the new F150 I got from the dealer.

My order is listed as a "plant conflict restriction. " nobody can tell me what that means, but after the chip shortage, the problem with the hard tops, and then this new restriction, I may actually be dead before I get my bronco! My other truck is a V8 with lots of "love scratches " each with its own story. Trade in value is about $1,500 but it is worth $5,000+ to me. $75 a month to keep it in storage.

I heard from Ford on Thursday. My Bronco is scheduled to be built on April 25th and I should take delivery on June 1st. 2 years after I ordered it! I got a VIN and my dealer confirmed the build! I'm going to keep my old truck for elk hunting. Not ready for backcountry pinstriping (and hopefully blood) on the new rig!!
