Well this is my 4 th year em hunting Colorado. Last year I harvested my 1 st elk with my bow. This year we drew muzzleloader tags and I was fortunate to harvest this 5x5 2 hours into my hunt. Actually the first bull I got to work. Last years pack out was easy compared to this year. 14 miles total to get all the meat out. I’m not the 21 year old Marine anymore. Lol a heck of a lot slower but that’s ok.

Congratulations Leatherneck. You must be in pretty good shape to pack out that critter.

Congrats! That’s a great way to start the Hunt! Did you hangout for the rest of your planned hunting time, or did you pack up early and call it a successful season after a day?

Sorry for the delayed response but I e been hunting in Ohio.

Thanks everyone for the kudos!

To answer the question about going home early. No way! First off I consider hunting out best to be just an awesome experience. Just being there makes me content. To harvest an elk is just a bonus. But my partner still had his tag and he really doesn’t call. So I was thrilled to go call for him. And the adventure continued. We were into more elk and another shot presented itself. But that’s another thread. Thanks again everyone.

Oh BTW- going back with bow again next year and my wife is coming out for a few days! I’m really excited to take her to that beautiful place!!!!

Well it’s not easy anymore. Got into doing triathlons a few years ago and even complet s a couple full Ironmans. That Kees me into pretty decent shape. But hiking/packing meat out is a different animal. But preparation is everything and I’m kinda anal about preparing. Thanks.

Congratulations!

there is a lot of Satisfaction getting game out on your own.

We had 28 miles of packing. And still have the trail cam back there. Two of us three times and my daughter once,,,, 2 miles in, but a relatively easy pack, But I was worthless for the following 4 days when I should have been hunting I was recovering
