Back Country Colorado Archery Elk Hunt

Postby Thegreatwapiti » 08 22, 2021 •  [Post 1]

I am an experienced archery elk hunter who does everything DIY in the backcountry. I plan on hunting September 7th - ????? ( as long as September 17th) near Fraser, CO. I will provide almost all of the equipment and an amazing experience. There is so much land to cover and I have been hunting alone for the past 5 years. This is a super tough hunt at 10,000 ft and requires you to be prepared physically. It would be great to make a new connection. Let's talk. The tag is about $700 for an out of state, over the counter, either sex archery tag. Todd

Those bulls down your way are still packing velvet? They’re late to the party ;)

Do you think that is the same bull 4 days apart on a different cam? Look at the kicker on the right beam.

I would guess 2 different bulls, but would need more photos to be sure. The kicker could be the end of the beam but it looks a little too small in diameter. Hard to tell. His loins look delicious though!

Hey,

I'd be interested in teaming up a little next year. I have a first rifle tag for northwestern CO this year but spend time in Grand County.

I took my Xmas gift cards and went shopping for new elk hunting boots today. Brought an extra thick sock and everything. Nothing but size 8.5! Come on supply chain!! I might be addicted.

how did the 2021 trip go?

I assume boots became an issue?

I super glued the sole back on my Danner's and they held for the season but I made the decision at some point that it was time for an upgrade. Nothing worse than wet feet!! As for the trip, amazing experience and I learn more each year. This year I am planning on two, 7-day trips with 2 days in the middle to wash and dry clothes and reload the rations. That is 14 days of hunting over 16 days! I got 2 new game cams this year. I saw that Utah and Arizona have both banned trail cams!! I hope Colorado doesn't follow suit!
