New member intro (didn’t see a thread for this)

Postby H2ODad » 11 19, 2020 •  [Post 1]

Hi. My name is Scott but go by H2ODad in a lot of places. I live in south Florida and am a single father who only hunts and fishes when not being a dad and working.

A moderator on here I know from a duck hunting forum suggested I join and check out the place since I am really hoping to someday kill an elk. At this point it feels like a pipe dream but if you do not try it can never happen.

I am looking forward to learning how I might be able to pull off a hunt and maybe meet some fellow hunters who I can share/swap hunts with. I hunt alligators, Osceola turkeys, ducks, deer, pigs and spearfish down here. I’m a meat hunter and only hunt public land.

My primary dream is to put enough elk meat in the freezer for a few years as I try to maximize my kids ( ages 6 and 7) access to wild game eating. We try to eat wild game 2-3 days a week and would do it more if my hunting and fishing time (and success) allowed for it.

Welcome to the forum H2Odad. Be careful about taking on elk hunting. It is addictive. After you get started, you cannot get it out of your mind. You will return home tired and beat, but as soon as you are rested up, you start planning for another hunt. I have hunted deer a lot but turkeys very little. I can take them or leave them, but those darn elk are hard to forget. Good luck.

BTW: There are a couple of other new members that I am not sure I welcomed to the forum. To those I missed, I apologize. You are more than welcome on the forum. We actually want you here and encourage you to take an active part in the threads.
P.S. Pay no attention to the goofy comments by Lefty, 7mm, and Tigger. They are knuckleheads, and try to stir the pot. You new members just stick close to me and you will be fine. :D

Welcome Scott! Watch out for Swede as he tends to parade around in his loin cloth. You cannot unsee that once you have seen it. I also recommend keeping a hand on your wallet when you read his posts, he might just figure out a way to take it!

Thanks for showing up,, and admitting it!

Now that your here: Check out Elknut tips and clips, and Archived tips. Your homework for your weeks off.

Scott I would advise staying out of the tree stand forum, that guy Swede will having you believe you can shoot elk from a tree, and that its easier than other methods of hunting

Also Joe,( Indian Summer) , once he is out of the woods, he has tons of great info for elk hunters hunting away from home.

I would like to think were a bit more friendly, and willing to share

H20dad, don't pay attention to these characters. Remember I told you they are knuckleheads. Three stooges.
Actually they can give you some great tips on elk hunting. Ask Lefty or Tigger where they are camped. 7mmfan is camped too far out to want to follow.

We camped about 4 miles down an ATV only trail. Cabelas Alaknak tents. Worked well. Heard bugles from my cot.

Pro Tip: If you are using a cot, put a wool blanket under your sleeping bag.

Might as well jump in now that I see this post.

My name is EJ and I'm 24 and from New Jersey. I've always dreamed of hunting out west (especially elk), and I would love to do it DIY and more than once. I've been an avid hunter all of my life. Doesn't matter to me if its with a bow, rifle, or muzzleloader. I'm not really sure how I stumbled upon this forum a while back, but I've been watching and learning for a little while now. This really seems like a great place to share stories and learn from each other. And it definitely seems to be a pretty tight knit group. Excited to get out in the coming years and hopefully have some good stories to contribute.
